Unknown Gunmen Rain Bullets On Lawmaker’s Convoy In Ebonyi

Unknown gunmen opened fire on the convoy of Ebonyi lawmaker Hon. Chinedu Awo, who represents the Ohaukwu north constituency in the State House of Assembly, on Sunday.

The lawmaker was ambushed by gunmen on his way back to his hometown of Effium, according to NEWS DIRECT.

According to reports, the gunmen opened fire on his convoy as soon as they saw him approaching the Effium village.

Recall that the Effium community has been engulfed in conflict since January 2021, claiming hundreds of innocent lives and assets worth millions of naira, according to investigations.

According to NEWS DIRECT, the Ebonyi government, led by Engr. David UMAHI, sent hundreds of security operatives to the Effium community in an attempt to calm the situation, but to no avail.

Recall that the consultant in charge of the Ebonyi ring road project, along with four others, was kidnapped while supervising the works along the Effium axis of the ring road and has yet to be freed.

It was learned that the congressman was shot multiple times while attempting to avoid being assassinated by the mysterious attackers.

He was brought to Abakaliki’s Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, where he is now being treated.
