Tension In Bayelsa As Gunmen Ambush Police Patrol Team, Cart Away Rifle

Unidentified gunmen ambushed a police patrol squad on the Kolo-Ogbia route in Bayelsa State’s Ogbia Local Government Area, injuring one officer.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when the assailants invaded the community, is said to have heightened tensions in the area.

SP Asinim Butswat, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, verified the news to our correspondent on Wednesday.

During the incident, a police inspector was hurt, and his rifle was confiscated, according to him.

“Police officers who were conducting stop and search operations along Kolo-Ogbia Road were attacked by gunmen suspected to be cultists, on 11 October 2021, at about 2245hours.

“A Police inspector was fatally injured and his rifle was carted away. An investigation is ongoing to apprehend the gunmen and recover the stolen rifle”, the PPRO stated in a text forwarded to DAILY POST.
