Kwara Assembly Reacts To Madrasah Arabic School’s Brutal Punishment Of Students

The Kwara State House of Assembly has urged the state government to put in place all required machinery to ensure that the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law is implemented.

This was part of a House resolution on a matter of general public importance moved by Hon. Adetiba-Olanrewaju (Oke-Ero) in response to the brutal beating of students at a Madrasah Arabic school in the Ganmo area of the state’s Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The House encouraged the state administration to bring the matter to the attention of the relevant government agencies so that disciplinary measures can be taken against anyone or institution who continues to commit the crime in Kwara State.

It further requested that the government engage on a huge media campaign to educate Kwarans on the terms of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition and other associated vices in society, utilizing various languages.

The House praised Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his quick response to the school situation.

The governor, according to the DAILY POST, appointed a 10-member inquiry team on Tuesday, led by retired Justice Idris Haroon, to look into the facts surrounding the incident.

The principal of the school has been placed on leave until the outcome of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the legislature’s House committee on energy has been tasked with investigating the circumstances underlying the recent vandalism of solar street lighting in Ilorin.
