Soludo: Secondus Mocks APC Over Anambra Defeat

Uche Secondus, the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Chairman who was recently court-suspended, mocked the All Progressives Congress for “seeking to reap where it did not sow” in the just-concluded Anambra Governorship Election.

Secondus also congratulated the All Progressives Grand Alliance’s candidate, Chukwuma Soludo, on his election victory.

Soludo, 61, won with 112,229 votes, defeating PDP’s Valentine Ozigbo with 53,807 votes and APC’s Andy Uba with 43,285 votes. Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party finished in fourth with 21,261 votes.

Soludo won 19 local government areas, while Ozigbo and Ubah each won one. The APC candidate, on the other hand, did not win any of the South-East state’s local government areas.

The PDP and YPP candidates have subsequently congratulated Soludo, but as of press time, the APC candidate had yet to admit defeat.

Some disgruntled APGA members, including a former candidate, Chukwuma Umeoji, switched to the APC in the run-up to the election, but the Supreme Court in Abuja upheld Soludo as the party’s governorship candidate and fired Umeoji.

Nkem Okeke, the incumbent deputy governor of Anambra State, has also switched from the APGA to the ruling party.

Many analysts expected the APC to have some clout in the election since numerous political heavyweights defected to the ruling party, but the APC candidate failed to win a local government seat in any of Anambra’s 21 LGAs.

Secondus lambasted the APC government for trying to reap where it did not plant in a statement released by his Media Aide, Ike Abonyi, on Wednesday.

In a statement titled, “Secondus congratulates Soludo, commends INEC, Security Agencies, and the PDP,” Soludo claimed that Soludo’s election demonstrated that the people have spoken and democracy is being implemented.

“He said that even though he had desired his party, the PDP, to come out victorious, but as a true democrat we will always respect the will of the people where and when it’s allowed to prevail.

“He also commended the PDP flagbearer in the election, Valentine Ozigbo and the other patriotic members of the party in the state for putting up a gallant fight in the spirit of PDP and democracy.

“Prince Secondus mocked the All Progressives Congress, APC for trying to reap where it did not sow in the hope that untoward act could give them victory where they do not deserve,” the statement partly read.

Secondus also hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies and other critical players for helping to deepen the country’s democracy by their positive actions.

  1. Shame on secundus this shows APC has the capacity to hold credible election unlike the PDP who impose candidate on the people and mind you the igbos shows that they are not ready to have a president who will rule this country by electing a minority party like AFGA which is only in Anambra they should forget about the presidency for now.
