Osun Government House Fence, Other Properties Destroyed By Severe Rain

Heavy rain, which began on Tuesday evening and continued till Wednesday afternoon in Osogbo, Osun’s capital, has wreaked havoc.

A section of the perimeter fence of Osun Government House in Oke-fia was destroyed by rain that began at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The torrential rain and subsequent flooding in Osogbo’s Alekuwodo, Onireke, Obate, Awosuru, Sadiat, Testing Ground, and Atimowa regions devastated other buildings and property worth millions of dollars.

Rain also swept away a bridge in the Awosusu neighborhood, resulting in heavy traffic on the axis.

Wailing, sobbing, and lamenting their plights were some of the vendors at Alekuwodo market, whose stores and goods, including cement, rice, beans, and yam flour, were ruined by the rain.

Many buildings and shops in Ilesa garage and other districts of the state capital were also inundated.

In the meantime, the state government has urged flood victims to keep calm.

According to a statement published by Funke Egbemode, Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, the administration is already examining the extent of the damage caused by the flood that occurred as a result of the heavy rain.

“The government has activated its emergency response system, which includes disaster management stakeholders such as environmental management officials, health workers, and security agencies, to respond efficiently to the crisis, if necessary,” according to the statement.

It urged anybody who was affected by the incident in any manner to be calm and wait for a fast and long-term solution in the state’s best interests.

“In the aftermath of the season’s downpours of different strength, citizens are also recommended to be careful and refrain from hazardous garbage disposal, which poses significant environmental risks.

The statement said, “Government is conscious of its obligations to safeguard lives and property in all circumstances and will continue to do so at all times.”
