Tokyo Olympics: Shehu Sani Reacts To Viral Video Of Nigeria’s Enekwechi Washing His Only Jersey Ahead Of Shot Put Final

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi of Nigeria posted a video on social media in which he appeared to be washing his only jersey before competing in the shot put final at the Tokyo Olympics.

Enekwechi qualified for the shot put final as one of the non-automatic qualifiers after finishing fourth in group B on Tuesday.

After hitting a mark of 21.16 meters, the 28-year-old ranked sixth in the overall qualification list.

Enekwechi released a TikTok short video showing himself washing his jersey in a sink under running tap water after qualifying for the final, which is set to take place on Thursday.

Before deleting the TikTok video, which he posted on his Instagram page, @thechuksay, on Tuesday evening, he captioned it, “When you made the Olympic Finals, but you only have one jersey.”

According to the video’s caption, Enekwechi was handed one jersey for the Tokyo Olympics tournament.

“If it’s true that Nigerian athletes have to wash and wear their only jerseys in the #TokyoOlympics, then it’s unfortunate,” Shehu Sani, former Kaduna Central Senator, wrote in a message via his Twitter profile on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, some Nigerian athletes competing in the Tokyo Olympics have complained and blamed the country’s sports authorities for their poor performance.

Blessing Okagbare, the Nigerian sprint champion, had previously accused the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) when ten of her colleagues were disqualified for failing to pass the Olympic drug test.

D’Tigers forward Chimezie Metu also blamed Nigeria’s poor performance at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics on the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the sports ministry.
