JUST IN: Court Grants Okorocha Medical Trip Permission

On Wednesday, a Federal High Court in Abuja authorized Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo State, to travel to the United Kingdom for medical care.

The former governor’s travel passport must be made available to him by the court registrar in order for him to travel for medical treatment, according to Justice Inyang Ekwo, who authorized the request.

Following a motion filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mr. Ola Olanipekun, who informed the court that his client had been experiencing health issues during the receipt times, the judge issued the order.

He stated that Okorocha, who is currently a senator and represents Imo North in the Senate, wouldn’t violate the ruling and would come home to face justice.

When Justice Ekwo said that the request will be allowed with a disclaimer by the court, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which was represented by Chile Okoroma, softened its opposition.

Justice Ekwo granted the motion but instructed Okorocha to give the passport back to the court registrar no later than three days after his arrival.

The Judge ruled that if Okorocha tried to misuse the favor bestowed upon him, he would be declared wanted.

Justice Ekwo later set November 7 as the date for his trial on the federal government’s criminal charges of money laundering.

Okorocha had made an appearance before a Federal High Court in Abuja in May and entered a not guilty plea to the N2.9 billion corruption accusations that the Federal Government had brought against him.
