Confusion As CTC Counters Judges Who Sacked Kano Governor, Upholds His Victory Against APC

The certified copy of the Appeal Court’s decision regarding the Kano State Governorship election has confirmed Abba Yusuf as the duly elected Governor.

In the written judgement, the Court of Appeal rejected the Kano election petition tribunal’s decision, deeming it lacking in merit.

According to the evidence presented on page 67 of the released Appeal Court judgement, signed by the registrar, Mr. Jameel Ibrahim Umar, the appellate court upheld Abba Kabiru Yusuf’s victory from the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.

On Friday, November 17, 2023, the three-member panel of the Appeal Court dismissed Governor Yusuf’s appeal based on his membership status as well as the issue of unsigned ballot papers, subsequently confirming Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the March 25, 2023, governorship poll in Kano.

During a press briefing on Tuesday evening, Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, emphasized that page 67 of the certified copy of the judgement clearly indicated the reversal of the tribunal’s ruling that removed Governor Yusuf. Dederi asserted that despite the judges’ statements in the courtroom on November 17, the written evidence establishes Yusuf as the legitimate Governor of Kano State.
