Black Christmas As Armed Bandits Carry Out Mass Killing, Bodies Litter Communities

Bandits have reportedly launched attacks on 23 villages in Plateau State, resulting in the tragic death of at least 145 individuals.

The assaults targeted 20 villages in Bokkos Local Government Area, where 113 people lost their lives, and three villages in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where 32 individuals were killed. The attacks occurred from Saturday night to the early hours of Monday, leaving hundreds injured and properties destroyed.

Transition Committee Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Monday Kassah, confirmed the incident, stating, “I counted not less than 113 people killed in 20 villages in the Bokkos LGA.”

Meanwhile, Captain Oya James, spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, a security taskforce in the state, confirmed the attacks but could not provide precise casualty figures, mentioning that the situation had been brought under control.

A humanitarian worker, speaking confidentially, disclosed, “We counted over 180 dead bodies from the attacks.” The state police command’s spokesman, Alabo Alfred, did not respond to requests for comment at the time of reporting.
