Fubara Reveals That Pro-Wike Lawmakers Were Eating In His House, Threatens To Deal With Them

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has blasted the pro-Nyesom Wike lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday, asserting that they hold no legitimate status.

Fubara emphasized that the Peace Accord he signed with his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike, was a political agreement, adding that it means it enables him to invalidate their positions as lawmakers.

He made these remarks while addressing a delegation of political and traditional leaders from Bayelsa State who sought to resolve the political crisis in Rivers State and improve relations between the two states. The meeting took place at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Fubara stated, “Those group of men who claim that are Assembly members are not Assembly members, they are not existing. I want it to be on record. I accepted that Peace Accord to give them a floating.”

He continued, “That is the truth. There was nothing in that Peace Accord that’s a constitutional issue; it’s a political solution to a problem. And I accepted it because these were people that were eating in my house, these were people I have helped pay their children’s school fees when I wasn’t even a governor. So, what is the thing there?”

“We might have our division but I believe that one day, we could also come together but it has gotten to a time when I have to make a statement that they are not existing.”

He further asserted, “Their existence is me allowing them to exist. If I de-recognise them, they are nowhere. I want you to see the sacrifice I have made in allowing peace to reign in our state.”

The Governor vowed that it was time for him to make a statement against the lawmakers having endured their actions for long just to give peace a chance. This implies that Fubara might go ahead to take action against the pro-Wike lawmakers given the actions against him including overriding his power of assent to some bills.

Fubara and Wike have been engaged in a conflict since he assumed office as governor, leading to some lawmakers defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress.

To promote peace, Tinubu had mandated both factions to endorse a peace deal, which included recognizing the aggrieved state lawmakers loyal to Wike.
