AFCON 2023: SuperSport Won’t Air Nations Cup Matches

Supersport TV, the leading sports broadcaster in Africa, will not be airing the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

This is because the broadcaster has not been ‘able to secure rights for the tournament’.

SuperSport disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

The South African media giant said it was unable to reach an agreement with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the rights for the AFCON 2023 and other CAF competitions, such as the qualifiers and the Champions League.

CAF had opened an invitation to tender (ITT) for the broadcast rights in May 2023, but Multichoice did not submit a bid.

However, the 2023 AFCON will be available on Free To Air (FTA) Channels.

Newsdirect reports that the 2023 AFCON is scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2024.

Ivory Coast is the host nation for the 2023 AFCON.
