Rivers Crisis: Wike Hits Fubara Hard, Reveals How He Betrayed Them

The simmering feud between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and former Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, reignited as the FCT Minister accused Fubara of orchestrating the burning of a section of the state’s House of Assembly.

The crisis began when the House of Assembly impeached its Majority Leader, Hon. Edison Ehie, reportedly a loyalist of Governor Fubara. This move was followed by the governor dismissing his Chief of Staff, believed to be a supporter of Wike. The situation escalated with the burning of a part of the House of Assembly, seen as an attempt to thwart potential impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.

Initially, a ceasefire was declared after the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with both parties seemingly reconciling. Governor Fubara likened the dispute to a family matter, saying, “There is nothing wrong if a father and a son have a problem. If there is any problem, whatever it is, we will definitely resolve the issue.”

However, in a recent development, Wike accused Fubara of being behind the arson at the House of Assembly. Wike claimed that Fubara orchestrated the burning to prevent an impeachment move against him.

Wike questioned Fubara’s actions, stating, “Assuming I’m the one who plotted it, did you say, ‘Sir, they want to impeach me’? Is that why you will send people to go and burn the hallowed chambers?”

Accusing Fubara of playing ethnic politics, Wike expressed concern about the unusual development in the state. He criticized Fubara for potentially destroying the political structure that had supported him within just three months of his governorship.

“In three months, it is sad for someone to scatter a political structure that supported and brought him up… You have 31 members in the House of Assembly, 27 are against you,” Wike lamented.
