Tension In Ondo As Gov Aiyedatiwa Sacks All Top Appointees By Akeredolu

In a significant move, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has disbanded the State Executive Council established by the late Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu causing serious tension among Ondo Government workers.

The sweeping action saw the removal of commissioners, special advisers, Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), and Special Assistants (SAs).

Additionally, Governor Aiyedatiwa nominated Dr. Olayide Adelami, a politician from Owo, the hometown of the late Akeredolu, as the Deputy Governor. Adelami, a former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, is set to undergo screening before the House of Assembly today. Notably, in 2020, he voluntarily stepped down for the late Akeredolu in the APC governorship primary.

This move marks the first major shake-up since Aiyedatiwa assumed office in December last year, succeeding the late Akeredolu after a prolonged illness.

A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, announced the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council.

The statement outlined the directive for former commissioners, special advisers, and other aides to hand over government properties to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices. Expressing gratitude for their services, Governor Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the contributions of the affected officials to the state’s development.

The nomination of Dr. Olayide Adelami as the Deputy Governor was conveyed in a letter read at the House of Assembly by Speaker Olamide Oladiji. The Speaker highlighted that the Governor’s actions align with Section 191(3)b&c of the 1999 Constitution as amended. Oladiji announced that Dr. Adelami, hailing from Owo in Owo Local Government Area, is scheduled for screening on January 25, 2024.
