Tension As Supreme Court Delivers Judgment In Suit Against 5 Governors
Tension is seriously building up as the Supreme Court delivers final judgment in suits against five sitting Governors.
The Supreme Court is set to decide the fate of these five Governors: Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa). The judgments will determine whether they will remain in office or exit as chief executives of their respective states.
In Ogun State, two appeals related to the governorship poll will be decided, one filed by Oladipupo Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and another by Governor Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adebutu and the PDP seek Abiodun’s removal as Governor.
The Supreme Court will also deliver judgments on appeals against the election of Oborevwori (Delta) by candidates Ovie Omo-Agege, Kenneth Gbagi, and Kennedy Pela.
In Gombe, the court will rule on an appeal by Jibrin Barde and the PDP against the election of Governor Yahaya.
For Nasarawa State, four appeals by the PDP candidate, Emmanuel David Ombugadu, against Governor Sule will be decided.
In Kebbi, judgments will be delivered on three appeals by the PDP candidate Aminu Bande, Governor Idris of the APC, and Deputy Governor Abubakar Argungu.
The court also heard an appeal in Kaduna State filed by the PDP candidate Mohammed Isa, seeking to void the election of Governor Uba Sani of the APC. The decision on this appeal was reserved till a later date.
Additionally, the court dismissed an appeal filed by the ADC candidate Nafiu Bala, marked SC/CV/1227/2023, as the lawyer withdrew it, deeming it a waste of the court’s time.
Last week, the Supreme Court cleared several governors, including those earlier sacked by the Court of Appeal.
