Bandits Kidnap Nigerian Soldiers On Major Highway
On the Maiduguri-Damaturu route in Borno’s Goni Masari district, bandits kidnapped two Nigerian Army personnel.
The soldiers, identified as Bello Abubakar and Oyediran Adedotun, were kidnapped while traveling to Kano in a civilian vehicle at about 5:07 p.m. on Saturday, according to a wireless message seen by Peoples Gazette.
Passengers in the truck reportedly contacted the army base in Mainok after noticing the driver’s suspicious behavior and acquaintance with the criminals.
The robbers were thought to operate based on information supplied to them by the driver, according to the signal message.
Following that, troops from the 134th special forces battalion, led by the commanding commander, were dispatched to the spot, but the robbers had departed the area after learning of the soldiers’ presence.
The driver and car were both caught right away and are being held by the army.
“The soldiers were on pass when the incident occurred. Liaison with Sect 2 MIB revealed that a SAR operation is being conducted while the driver of the bus in which the soldiers were traveling is suspected to be a prime suspect in the incident due to some indicators. He has been arrested by troops and is undergoing investigation,” the army document stated.
With no more encounter, the forces were claimed to have dominated the Mada/Matari area.
The army was unable to locate the soldiers and other passengers despite finding Mr Abubakar’s identity card and wallet in the vehicle.
The event occurred just two days after Abbas Fatai, a military officer with the 16 Brigade in Yenagoa, was shot and killed by alleged members of the Icelanders cult organization.
Mr Fatai was killed around 9:12 p.m. According to preliminary army investigations, he was killed on July 22 near Igbogene Junction in the Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa, where he lived.
In April, gunmen raided Onipe village in Oluyole local government area of Ibadan, kidnapping one female soldier, Bola Ogunrinde, and two other ladies along the Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan road.
Mrs Ogunrinde was abducted in the region while driving a Toyota RAV-4 with the registration number AGL 66 FY.
