Switzerland stunned world champions France at Euro 2020 on Monday, winning 5-4 on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw in the last-16. Kylian Mbappe missed the crucial penalty.

Mbappe, the highlight of France’s 2018 World Cup success, had his penalty saved by Yann Sommer as Switzerland won a European Championship knockout tie for the first time and advanced to the final eight.

In normal time, Haris Seferovic put Switzerland ahead, and a Karim Benzema brace and a Paul Pogba goal turned the tie around, but another Seferovic goal and a Mario Gavranovic strike sent the contest to extra time in Bucharest.
