Sunday Igboho Obeyed Buhari’s Self-Defence Order, Shouldn’t Be Arrested – Omokri
Reno Omokri, a senior advisor to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s government of double standards in the case of Sunday Adeyemo, commonly known as Igboho, a Yoruba freedom fighter.
Omokri questioned why the government attempted to detain Igboho for following the Minister of Defense, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi’s self-defense instruction (rtd).
In February, Magashi stated that Nigerians should not be afraid to defend themselves against bandits and killer herdsmen.
Bandits occasionally carried out their operations with a few rounds of ammunition to induce terror, according to the minister, thus Nigerians should abandon fear and protect themselves.
Magashi had said: “It is the responsibility of everybody to keep alert and to find safety when necessary. But we shouldn’t be cowards.
“I don’t know why people are running from minor things like that. They should stand and let these people know that even the villagers have the competency and capabilities to defend themselves.”
Omokri, in a tweet wrote: “What I do not understand about this Sunday Igboho case is this: Buhari’s Defence Minister, told us to defend ourselves from bandits and killer herdsmen.
“Sunday Igboho has done exactly that. Now they want to arrest Igboho for obeying their own directive to Nigerians?”
The Department of State Services (DSS) had invaded Igboho’s home in Ibadan a few days before.
Despite the fact that the Yoruba freedom warrior was not seized, some of his associates were killed or apprehended.
During the operation, the DSS allegedly found guns and charms from Igboho’s home.
Igboho, on the other hand, denied owning the firearms displayed by DSS, insisting that he is protected by traditional powers.
