Appeal Court Delivers Judgement On PDP National Convention Friday

The Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt has set Friday, October 29 as the deadline for a decision on an appeal filed by the PDP’s suspended Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, against the party and 12 others.

Secondus is requesting that the party’s upcoming national convention, which is set to take place this weekend, be postponed until the outcome of the substantive appeal.

After the parties’ attorneys debated and adopted their final written addresses, the three-member appeal panel chaired by Justice Haruna Tsammani set the date.

If his client’s request to stop the convention is denied, plaintiff’s counsel Payo Oyetibo, SAN, said it will be like “taking off the drug under the feet of appellant.”

However, Henry Bello, counsel for the 1st to 5th respondents, objected to Secondus’ lawyer’s submission, claiming that the prayer was unrelated to the ongoing appeal before the panel, which concerns Secondus’ leadership and membership in the party.

After six other parties expressed interest and were granted leave to join the claim, the latest sitting on Tuesday was extended until October 28 for hearing and possible judgement.
