Queen Elizabeth II Dies Aged 96, Buckingham Palace Announces

Buckingham Palace has announced that the Queen has passed away at age 96.

“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” Buckingham Palace said.

As the oldest head of state in history and the monarch with the longest reign in British history, Queen Elizabeth II.

Charles, the former Prince of Wales, the eldest son and heir of the Queen, has succeeded her as King of the United Kingdom and 14 Commonwealth states.

There have been no formal announcements regarding what will occur over the next few days, but it is expected that the Queen will have a full state burial, as is customary to mark the passing of a monarch.

Her body is anticipated to lie in state so that mourners can pay their respects.

The King will sign off the final plans in the coming days.
