Nnamdi Kanu’s Arrest: Put Same Zeal In Arrest Of Killer Herdsmen ― Ortom Asks FG
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has urged the Federal Government to apply the same zeal with which the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, leader was arrested to the arrest of leaders of militia herdsmen and Miyetti Allah who have admitted to killings in the state.
He stressed that it was only by doing so that the government’s lauded war against insurgency and terrorism in the country would be taken seriously.
The Governor, speaking at a fertilizer sale in Makurdi on Thursday, urged the Federal Government to grant the people of Benue justice by guaranteeing the arrest of leaders of militia herdsmen who were killing and looting towns in the state, putting a stop to food production.
“If the federal government has shown capacity to apprehend Nnamdi Kanu, they must equally show the same enthusiasm, determination, and decision to arrest the Fulani herdsmen terrorizing our state and country,” he stated.
“Let it be done; they’re staying with us.” If Nnamdi Kanu can be apprehended in a foreign country, I believe the federal government would be able to apprehend Fulani herdsmen, particularly Miyetti Allah, who have admitted to the massacres in Benue state and continue to terrorize our country.
“It’s both amusing and tragic that Miyetti Allah is referring to Nnamdi Kanu as a terrorist. A terrorist organization called Miyetti Allah and Fulani herdsmen label someone fighting for the liberation of his people as a terrorist.
“As a result, the federal government should take responsibility and arrest the people.”
“I have no objection to Nnamdi Kanu being tried, but due process must be followed and justice must be served,” the Governor continued. Let justice be served if he has committed any wrongdoing.
“However, the federal government must also do justice by apprehending Fulani herdsmen who have terrorized our country and caused so many difficulties, sufferings, and challenges to our economy, security, and unity. If the federal government fails to do so, it indicates that they are not serious about the issue.
“However, I must applaud security personnel’s efforts in monitoring militia herdsmen’s actions in our towns. We demand that the federal government step up its efforts to create and maintain a safer climate in which our people can return to their ancestral homes.”
The Governor noted that Benue was burdened by over one million internally displaced persons, or IDPs, and that the federal government needed to step in to help them return to their ancestral homes.
