New Year Visit: Gov. Diri Receives Rivers Counterpart, Fubara in Sampou

***Urges collaboration between two states

***Sues for peace in Rivers State

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, today in his country-home of Sampou, in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, received his Rivers State counterpart, Governor Sim Fubara, for a New Year visit.

Governor Diri while appreciating him for the visit also called for peace between the Governor and his predecessor stating that, whatever happened in Rivers State affects Bayelsa.

The Governor also reiterated the lingering legal battles faced by the two States, noting that he was happy to note that Governor Fubara is prepared for amicable resolution out of court.

Senator Diri assured Gov. Fubara of his Government’s readiness to collaborate with Rivers State on the development of the two sister’s states.

“As it has been said here and amplified by my brother Governor, Rivers and Bayelsa are one and the same. That’s why even in the political misunderstandings going on in Rivers State, I choose to be quiet. While I was quiet, we were also working behind the scenes so that there would be peace in Rivers State. Whatever happens in Rivers State affects Bayelsa and vice versa.

So, I am happy that there is some relative peace and we will continue to pray for peace to reign in Rivers State.

Listening to you my heart also leapt for joy when you mentioned our two States and how closely related we are. Of course, those teething issues, those issues didn’t start with us. Between myself and your predecessor, we were trying to resolve some of them at a point, we have a lot of legal battles, you are aware.

I am very prepared for both of us to talk and resolve these issues. We will be interested in peace.

For us, we can always be sure of our collaboration, of our partnership and our support,”Governor Diri stated.

Earlier, the Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara said the visit was to wish Governor Diri a happy New Year and seek collaboration between the two States.
