N80.2B: FG Takes Action Against Ex-Gov Bello, Sends Signal To DSS, Police

The Federal Government has taken a serious action against the embattled ex-Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The Federal Government placed Bello, on its watchlist to prevent any attempt to leave the country to evade prosecution.

In a circular dated April 18, 2024, signed by Assistant Comptroller of Immigration DS Umar on behalf of the Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, the Nigerian Immigration Service alerted the police and the Department of State Services about the need to apprehend the former governor.

Following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s declaration of Bello as wanted in connection to an alleged N80.2 billion money laundering case, the NIS circular provided detailed information, including the name, nationality, and passport number (B50083321) of the former governor.

Assistant Comptroller of Immigration DS Umar, signing on behalf of the Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, stated, “I am directed to inform you that the above-named person has been placed on the watch list.”

The circular emphasized Bello’s ongoing prosecution in the Federal High Court Abuja for Conspiracy, Breach of Trust, and Money Laundering.

It further instructed, “If seen at any entry or exit point, he should be arrested and referred to the Director of Investigation or contact 08036226329/07039617304 for further action.”
