JUST IN: Tension As LP Members Storm Meeting Venue To Stop NLC President

A group of Labour Party (LP) members disrupted a stakeholders meeting organized by the Political Commission of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja on Monday.

They stormed the venue to stop the NLC President Joe Ajaero from meddling in the party’s affairs.

They warned Ajaero to concentrate on opposing the Federal Government’s anti-people policies rather than engaging in internal party disputes.

The LP supporters accused Ajaero of attempting to seize control of the party, adding to the ongoing feud between Ajaero and the National Chairman of the LP, Julius Abure. The NLC Political Commission accused Abure of orchestrating an illegal convention where he was re-elected as chairman, leading to the declaration of the convention as illegitimate and the call for a caretaker transition committee to organize a legitimate national convention.

The party’s internal crisis escalated with the founding fathers calling for Abure’s removal, and the Board of Trustees announcing their takeover of the party’s affairs after the convention.

Meanwhile, former LP presidential candidate Peter Obi advocated for a peaceful resolution of the disputes, suggesting the establishment of two committees to address the issues within the party.

Acting Chairman of the NLC Political Commission, Prof Theophilus Ndubuaku, indicated that the meeting would establish a transition committee to organize an all-inclusive convention.
