JUST IN: EFCC Goes After Ex-Buhari’s Minister Over Major Fraud
Sadiya Umar-Farouk, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, is set to face interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding an alleged N37.1 billion fraud.
A reliable source from the EFCC confirmed this development during a telephone conversation on Wednesday, January 3.
Umar-Farouk, who served as a minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari from August 2019 to May 29, 2023, has been summoned by the anti-graft agency in connection to an ongoing investigation into her tenure at the ministry.
The probe centers around an alleged N37.1 billion that was reportedly misappropriated during her term, with a focus on transactions involving a contractor named James Okwete.
Following the investigation, the former minister received an invitation to appear before EFCC interrogators at the agency’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, scheduled for 10:00 am a week later.
As of now, Umar-Farouk has not complied with the invitation. The anti-corruption agency is set to go after her to answer for her deeds while in office.
Additionally, other officials who served under her have also been summoned to provide additional information regarding the management of the ministry over the past four years.
