I’ve Not Forgotten How Professor Osunbor Helped Me At Senate Chambers –Oba Of Benin

It was a warm reception today, for former Edo State governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, who went visiting the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II at his palace. Osunbor who is also an aspirant of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming polls in the state, was accompanied on the visit by another aspirant, Mr Kenneth Imansuangbon of the Labour Party The men had gone there to seek the blessings of the Oba of Benin and this provided an opportunity for the respected monarch to go down memory lane.

He recalled how then Senator Osunbor went the extra mile to ensure his comfort during his screening in the Senate chambers as an ambassador designate.

He also promised praying for the aspirant so that he would come to no harm even as he aspired for the coveted office.

Recalling his first taste at the office, which though ended abruptly when he was removed by an election petition tribunal, Professor Osunbor told the royal father that he was back this time to complete what he started. “I know it is in the interest of Your Royal Majesty that whoever is coming to govern the state should be somebody who has the interest of the state and is prepared to do what is required to be able to elevate Edo State to an enviable level”, he stated.

He also referred to his “Edo for Excellence” slogan that first tenure, a tenure that lasted only from May 2007 to November 2008, saying the period was truly charaterised by excellence.

The Oba of Benin also used the opportunity to speak jocularly to the Mr Imansuangbon, by enquiring when he would commence sharing rice palliative like he normally did yearly.

The Oba had received the two aspirants separately, praying for them. He also made it clear that as a royal father for all, that his palace was apolitical.
