Former NNPC GMD, Andrew Yakubu Discharged, Aquitted Of $9.8m Corruption Charges

Andrew Yakubu, the former Group Managing Director, GMD, of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, was dismissed and cleared by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday of the $9.8 million corruption charges made against him by the Federal Government.

In a ruling, Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed ruled that the large sums of foreign currency seized from him in 2017 and held by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) be immediately reimbursed to him.

The judge ruled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which prosecuted Yakubu, had failed miserably to prove that he had money in excess of the legal limit.

Justice Mohammed went on to say that the testimony of the anti-graft agency’s witnesses presented doubts that had to be resolved in the defendant’s favor.
