Enugu Assembly Passes Anti-open Grazing Bill

The open grazing prohibition bill was passed into law by the Enugu State House of Assembly on Thursday.

The law passed the third reading after a clause-by-clause review, according to News Direct.

The passage coincided with the Southern Governors’ September 1 deadline for the elimination of open cattle rearing.

The State Assembly held a public hearing on the bill earlier this week, during which the Miyetti Allah, the umbrella organisation of Fulani herdsmen, requested a one-month delay to allow them to provide input on the measure.

However, the bill was approved into law in plenary on Thursday and will now be delivered to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his signature.
