BREAKING: Tinubu Makes Fresh Appointment
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Temitope Ilori as the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) for an initial term of four years, making her the first female to hold this position.
Dr. Ilori replaces Dr. Gambo Gumel Aliyu.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, stated, “President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Temitope Ilori to serve as the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) for an initial term of four years.”
Dr. Ilori, a senior lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine at the University of Ibadan and a consultant family physician at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, is expected to bring her extensive experience and expertise to her new role.
Ngelale further remarked, “The President expects the new Director-General to bring her wealth of experience and expertise into this seminal role to achieve the mandate of NACA.”
Dr. Ilori holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Ibadan and is currently a PhD fellow in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. She has authored over 30 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Previously, Dr. Ilori served as Commissioner for Health in Osun State from 2011 to 2014 and Chairperson of the Osun State Agency on Control of HIV/AIDS (O-SACA).
In his statement, Ngelale emphasized the importance of Dr. Ilori’s role in achieving NACA’s mandate, which includes coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the implementation of the Strategic National Plan for the control of HIV/AIDS/STDs, as well as mobilizing resources for an effective and sustainable response to HIV/AIDS/STDs.
