Stop press: Niger is purchasing 100 tractors!

Abdullberqy U. Ebbo

Niger State Government has concluded arrangements for immediate purchase and delivery of 100 tractors for free distribution to farmers across 25 councils of the state. This is contrary and opposed to media error that the government is planning to purchase just 10 at a cost of N1.8 billion.

The latest effort by the state government was in total agreement with its avowal to commit resources of state only upon services and projects that bear directly with the comfort and well-being of the masses, rather than white elephants cooked to hoodwink the people and purloin state resources.

Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger disclosed this in Minna through his deputy at the inauguration of the 2019 farming season and sales and distribution of fertilisers, improved seeds and agro-chemicals to farmers.

However, the report in Daily Trust of Friday, June 14, 2019 in which the paper deliberately misrepresented facts and figures of well intentioned and commendable move by the administration of Governor Sani Bello, by calling 100 just ten is frowned upon and condemned.

Journalism of bile and poison embarked upon just to cater for a section of disgruntled political elements would do nothing to edify anyone, not even those who pay to have such bad services.

Both reporter and his so-called paper remain condemned and their intention to serve just a handful of disgruntled perverts is plain and clear as the day! It is always good to verrify facts and check figures to ensure modern day journalism does not remain in the gutters of old, write and chop pamphleteering!
