Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Borno Town, Raze Government Hospital, Residential Buildings

The Islamic State West Africa Province, formerly known as Jam’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihd, launched an attack on Damboa in Borno State on Tuesday night.

Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counterinsurgency expert in the North East, revealed this on Twitter.

Terrorists, according to Makama, set fire to several buildings, including the Damboa General Hospital.

“Damboa LGA is currently under heavy attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP. Reliably informed that they have infiltrated into the town already,” he wrote last night.

“The ISWAP are currently setting some building on fire including Damboa general hospital.‪ @NigAirForce‬ support urgently needed. Troops of Operation Hadin Kai currently engaging the terrorists in a heavy gun battle. ‪@CAS_IOAmao @NigAirForce‬ support needed.”

ISWAP has been consolidating its influence in areas around Lake Chad since the death of JAS commander Abubakar Shekau.

Wali Sani Shuwaram, 45, was recently appointed as the new leader (Wali) of ISWAP in Lake Chad.

Hundreds of Boko Haram fighters have defected to Shekau, increasing the sect’s membership.

The Nigerian Army has stated that the insurgency has been mostly defeated on numerous occasions, while downplaying any losses.

The terror group has killed over 100,000 people and displaced millions of others, mostly in the states of Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe.
