Bandits Invade Adamawa Hospital, Abduct Medical Doctor

The director of a hospital in Yola, Adamawa State’s capital, has been kidnapped by gunmen suspected of being bandits.

Dr. Saidu Bala, a medical doctor, was taken away on Monday evening.

Bala is the former Medical Director of Yola’s Specialist Hospital, according to the Daily Trust.

The gunmen entered the hospital at 6 p.m., when residents had just completed Maghrib prayer, according to a source.

According to the informant, they shot intermittently as soon as they arrived at the hospital to scare people away.

“The gunmen stormed the hospital shortly after Maghrib prayer and shot into the air to scare people away. They then went to Dr Saidu Bala’s office and took him away. The operation was so fast that it was conducted in less than five minutes,” the source disclosed.

The Adamawa State Police spokesman, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident, saying officers had been deployed to apprehend the assailants and rescue the victim.

“Our men found three used bullet canisters at the scene of the crime and we have immediately deployed men of the anti-kidnapping squad to rescue the abducted medical practitioner,” he said.

The incident happened amid the concerns about the high level of insecurity in the country, especially in the north.
