Sulaiman Adamu, a chieftain in the All Progressives Congress (APC), was dismissed for claiming that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo should succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
In Adamawa State’s Yola South Local Government Area, Adamu served as the party’s Caretaker Chairman.
The expulsion, according to APC National Secretary John Akpan Udoedehe’s announcement on Thursday, is effective immediately.
The 16th meeting of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) held at the National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, according to the scribe, resulted in the resolution.
He said the party had received and discussed Adamu’s transgressions and the recommendations of the Adamawa State Working Committee’s seven-member disciplinary committee.
Adamu was chastised by the APC for making “unwholesome statements” about the party’s leader, President Muhammadu Buhari.
“He was also found guilty of smearing the party’s image, casting doubt on his leadership abilities and devotion to the party.”
The CECPC advised members to constantly show restraint and refrain from activities or statements that are detrimental to the ruling platform’s interests.
Former Adamawa governor Jibrilla Bindow was interrogated by the Department of State Security Services (DSS) in August over anti-Buhari remarks.
As part of his preparations to run for governor in 2023, Bindow called a conference of his allies.
Adamu, Kabiru Mijinyawa, ex-Adamawa Speaker; Abubakar Sirimbai, ex-Administrator, Yola West Development Area; Aliyu Mustapha, ex-Commissioner; and Yusha’u Adamu, ex-adviser, were all present at the meeting.
In a leaked audio recording, Adamu slammed Buhari’s leadership, lamenting the country’s and party’s status.
“What impact does Buhari have on the party? To us, how valuable is he? Adamu had declared in Fulfulde, “How I wish he had contracted coronavirus, so that Osinbajo could take over.”
