Yahaya Bello blasts EFCC over nephew’s arrest

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has spoken out against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the arrest of his nephew, Alhaji Ali Bello currently serves as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Kogi State.

Expressing his discontent, Governor Bello stated that the arrest of his nephew was a grave error on the part of the EFCC. He warned that if the arrest is not promptly reversed with an apology, there may be revelations of corruption involving high-ranking officials.

Former Governor Bello further emphasized that failure to reconsider the arrest could lead to widespread indictments. He concluded by stating that “enough is enough for the wise.”

The arrest of Alli Bello and Dauda Suleiman stems from allegations of misappropriating a staggering N84 billion. The EFCC had previously arraigned Alli Bello and Suleiman on charges related to money laundering and breach of trust, among others.

The amended charges brought against them include accusations of concealing funds with a Bureau De Change operator in Abuja. Additionally, former Governor Yahaya Bello’s name was mentioned in one of the counts, although he remains at large.

This development underscores the ongoing battle against corruption in Nigeria and highlights the complexities surrounding high-profile cases involving public officials. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the EFCC will respond to Governor Bello’s criticisms and whether further revelations will emerge in this case.
