Why I May Choose To Quit Politics – Gov Uzodinma

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has stated that he would rather leave politics than be involved in bloodletting violence.

The governor made the claim during a press conference with media on the sidelines of the Nigerian Catholic Bishops Conference’s inaugural plenary in Abuja on Sunday.

Governor Uzodinma has separated himself from politicians that use violence to attain their personal goals, especially during elections.

He said, “I don’t belong to the class of politicians that will encourage violence. I don’t belong to the class of politicians that will spill blood (to win elections).

“I will rather prefer not to be a politician than to be an instrument of violence. If you recall the history of elections in Nigeria, it has always been greeted with anxiety in the beginning.”

Imo State has recently faced a number of security issues as a result of a confrontation between outlawed members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and law enforcement forces.

Due to the claimed actions of the IPOB’s security wing, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, many security personnel have been killed and police stations have been burned in the state.
