We’ll Help Nigerians Bypass Buhari Govt’s Ban — Twitter

On Saturday, Twitter announced that it had started working to restore Nigerians’ access to its site.

The announcement comes a day after the Buhari administration said that the social media behemoth would be banned across the country due to abuse and insecurity.

The action has been severely criticized and labeled as illegal and undemocratic.

“We are deeply concerned by the blocking of Twitter in Nigeria. Access to the free and #OpenInternet is an essential human right in modern society,” the firm said in a statement posted on its Public Policy handle. “We will work to restore access for all those in Nigeria who rely on Twitter to communicate and connect with the world.”

MTN, Glo, and 9mobile have all acknowledged that they had received the government’s order to prohibit Twitter.

Some Nigerians have begun to bypass the limitations by utilizing VPN and Tor browsers, but millions of individuals remain cut off and have yet to find a way past the block.
