UCH resident doctors protest unpaid salaries, suspend work

The Association of Resident Doctors, University College Hospital, Ibadan, has begun on an indefinite strike over the unpaid four months salaries of some members.

Dr Temitope Hussein, stated on Saturday in Ibadan, that the strike was to protest non-payment of January, February, March, and April salaries of some members of the association.

Hussein stated other issues which they were fighting for as the non-enrolment of some members into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, which was affecting the payment of their emoluments.

It can be recalled that the national body of the association, the National Association of Resident Doctors had in April canceled its infinite strike after ten days.

NARD had cited “new agreement reached with the Federal Government” as the reason for suspending the strike.

The doctors had demanded, amongst other things, the payment of all salary arrears and review of the current hazard allowance to 50 per cent of compressed fundamental salaries for all health workers.
