Police Take Over Cross River Assembly

All access to the Cross River State House of Assembly have been blocked by various Nigeria Police Force troops.

Members of the Assembly’s staff have also been turned back. They were warned not to linger in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, they took positions as early as 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the DAILY POST.

The anti-kidnapping and cultism squad, as well as normal police officers, were among the several units.

They’ve also taken over the Assembly’s offices.

The increased security is thought to be in response to a ruling handed down by a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, which dismissed 18 state legislators and two members of the House of Representatives for defecting from the PDP to the APC on May 20, 2021.

A few police officers can also be seen standing near Governor Ben Ayade’s office, which is only a few meters away.

Motorists and innocent bystanders are finding it impossible to navigate through the mass of security officers, their vans, and other witnesses.

The ruling APC had stated that they had asked to the Court for a stay of execution of the judgment while they appealed.
