Twitter Must Register In Nigeria Before Ban Is Reversed — Nigerian Government

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media companies must register in Nigeria, according to the Nigerian government.

After the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, made the announcement to state house correspondents.

Twitter’s management has reached out for a “high-level discussion” to fix the issue that led to the suspension of its activities in Nigeria, according to Mohammed.

Twitter was suspended, according to the Minister, because it gave a platform for persons who threatened Nigeria’s corporate survival.

He said that the action had not restricted freedom of speech, and that Nigerians could still use alternative platforms like as Facebook and Instagram.

He went on to say that Twitter’s financial loss as a result of the suspension is proof of its success.

Mohammed said that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey helped fund the #EndSARS demonstration last year and is now allowing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to use the platform to advocate for the killing of Nigerian security personnel.

He went on to say that one of the requirements for the Nigerian government to lift the restriction on Twitter is that the social media company be established as a commercial enterprise in Nigeria.

Other social media networks, such as Facebook and Instagram, must also be registered in the country, according to Mohammed.
