Twitter Already Seeking High-level Talks With Nigeria To Resolve Ban – Lai Mohammed

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has stated that Twitter has requested a high-level meeting with the Federal government in response to the suspension on its operations in the West African country last Friday.

According to Mohammed, Twitter reached out to the Nigerian authorities on Wednesday to settle the problem.

After Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the minister told reporters about it.

According to the Tribune, Mohammed said he received the message on Wednesday morning.

In response to inquiries regarding the ban’s effectiveness, Mohammed stated that it was effective and that Twitter had lost money as a result of it.

He claimed the portal was shut down because it gave a forum for those who posed a danger to Nigeria’s corporate existence.

He also accused Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey, of aiding in the funding of the recent #EndSARS demonstration and allowing IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to use the platform to call for the assassination of police officers.

He blamed Twitter for failing to remove Kanu’s tweets despite multiple requests.

One of the prerequisites for the operation of Twitter and other social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, according to Mohammed, is that they must be registered in Nigeria.
