Twist: Wike Finally Opens Up On Clash With Fubara, Rivers Crisis
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has finally opened up on the political crisis in his home state, Rivers State, involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The once mutual relationship between the immediate past Rivers Governor and his successor has turned somehow sour with the state lawmakers loyal to Wike making serious moves to impeach Fubara.
The situation became more tense on Monday after an early morning blast that occurred in the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. Later in the day, the lawmakers suspended their colleagues loyal to Fubara and moved on with plans to impeach the Governor over some issues.
Since the issue became aggravated, accusing fingers have been pointed at Wike as the main man behind the move to impeach Fubara over political disagreements, this was especially made public by an elder statesman and leader of Niger Delta, Chief Edwin Clark when he reacted to the Rivers crisis.
However, Wike had kept quiet for a long time but he finally opened up on the issue. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory said that no amount of calumny against him would make him lose sleep.
Speaking further, Wike said once he loses his base as a politician, he has lost his relevance politically. He spoke on the issue while receiving South-South leaders in his office on Tuesday in Abuja, noting that the right thing must be done.
Wike said: “All of us want to be politically relevant; all of us want to maintain our political structure. “Is it not your political structure? Will you allow anybody to just cut you out immediately? Everybody has a base. If you take my base, am I not politically irrelevant?”
Earlier on Tuesday, reports emerged that President Bola Tinubu had intervened in the crisis with a view to resolving it.
Similarly, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors and other critical stakeholders have also waded into the matter to resolve it to the extent that Wike and Fubara even held a meeting at the State House Abuja.
