Troops Repel Boko Haram/ISWAP Terrorists In Buni Yadi — Army

According to Nigerian Army spokesman Onyema Nwachukwu, terrorists who attempted to infiltrate Buni Yadi in Yobe State on Tuesday were killed by troops from Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) and the police.

Mr Nwachukwu said in a statement on Wednesday that security officers engaged in a ferocious struggle with Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

According to Mr Nwachukwu, the terrorists attempted to invade Buni Yadi in Guljba Local Government Area but were met with fierce opposition from troops from 27 Task Force Brigade and the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, who were backed up by the Nigerian Air Component.

He went on to say that members of the Nigerian Police Force backed up the army who bravely fought and defeated the terrorists with overwhelming weaponry.

The violent combat, he said, prompted the criminals to flee in different directions after suffering huge losses.

“Several gun trucks with their occupants were taken out by the troops. Preliminary battle damage assessment revealed the precision with which Air and Land troops engaged the terrorists destroying their gun trucks.

“Exploitation is still ongoing by troops to take out fleeing remnants of the terrorists,” he said.

Mr Nwachukwu said the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Farouk Yahaya, had commended the troops for the operational exploit.

“He also charged them to sustain the current operational tempo to deny the criminals freedom of action,” he said.
