Three Killed As Robbers Attack Access, Wema Bank In Ekiti

In Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti, three people are said to have died as a result of an armed robbery that occurred on Wednesday at two banks in the state.

The town’s Access Bank and Wema Bank branches were reportedly targeted by the criminals.

According to reports, the criminals broke through the security doors leading into the banking halls by blowing them up with dynamites.

As at the time this report was filed, the specifics of the robbery are still unclear.

However, the robbers were said to have carted away an unspecified amount of money after operating for about 45 minutes.

A witness said the robbers attacked the Amotekun post in the town before heading to the banks.

He said a farmer was among those who were shot dead by the robbers.

“They first went to Amotekun post and attacked them, before heading to the bank,” the witness told TheCable.

“A farmer who lived nearby had just returned from his farm and was riding towards his house when the robbers shot him, thinking he was coming to attack them.”

The witness said that as of today evening, the police have blocked off the banking areas because they think that part of the dynamites that the criminals dropped are still within the banks.

Social media users shared videos of the bandits shooting into the air as they fled.

When NEWS DIRECT called Sunday Abutu, the state’s police spokeswoman, to confirm the occurrence, no one picked up.
