Tension: Teargas Fired As Protest Erupts In Kano Over Suspicious Judgment That Sacked Gov Yusuf

Supporters of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) organized a protest in Kano yesterday to express their anger.

They held the protest against the court’s contradictory judgment that removed the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP and gave victory to Nasir Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The protesters initiated their demonstration with a special prayer session at Filin Mahaha around 2 pm before proceeding with a street procession, demanding for justice.

However, the police later dispersed the demonstrators using teargas. This followed earlier warnings by the police that it would not allow any breakdown of law and order or violent protest in the state over the election and court judgment.

Leaders of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and NNPP had signed a peace deal to communicate this restriction to their respective supporters.
