BREAKING: Nationwide Blackout As Electricity Grid Collapses Again

Following extended hours of power outage in various sections of the country, electricity distribution providers have confirmed a new breakdown of the national grid.

The distribution businesses used social media on Wednesday to provide information to their customers.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company said “Dear valued customer, we regret to inform you of a system collapse on the National Grid that’s causing outages across our network. We are working with our TCN partners to restore supply as soon as possible.”

Ikeja Electric also updated on Facebook, saying: “Dear Esteemed Customer, the current power outage is due to a nationwide system collapse that occurred at about 12:26hrs. Power supply will be restored gradually to various parts of the network as soon as the Grid is stabilized. Kindly bear with us.”

The electrical distribution firm in Kaduna also provided updates on the power supply situation, apologizing for any difficulty caused to customers.

The Nigerian Electricity System Operator, which is in charge of conducting real-time system studies, fault analysis, load flow analysis, and power system planning, gives no information on the power generated by the grid across the country on Wednesday. Its most recent operational data update was on July 27, so there’s no way of knowing what triggered the outage.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria blamed a voltage breakdown from its Shiroro Power Generating Station for the national grid’s last failure in May, pledging to investigate and repair the problem.

At the time of reporting this article, attempts to contact the Nigerian Transmission Company were unsuccessful.
