Supreme Court Declares Salisu Majigiri as Rightful Winner of Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency Seat

The Supreme Court of Nigeria decisively resolves the matter of the Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency seat in the National Assembly, declaring Salisu Majigiri as the winner in its ruling on Thursday, August 10th.

Leading the panel of five Supreme Court justices, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, nullified both the federal high court judgment in Katsina and the court of appeal’s decision in Kaduna. The panel deemed the case a pre-election matter that had exceeded the statute of limitations.

The legal dispute centered around Nazifi Bello and Salisu Majigiri, both representing the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and their contestation over the party’s primaries, which determined Majigiri’s nomination.

In its verdict, the Supreme Court mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly revoke Nazifi Bello’s certificate of return and reissue one to Salisu Majigiri.

Additionally, the Supreme Court imposed a fine of 10 million naira on Nazifi Bello, the primary complainant, and another 10 million naira on the PDP, the secondary complainant.

With his triumphant outcome in the Supreme Court, Majigiri was joyfully welcomed back to his constituency, where he received an enthusiastic homecoming reception from the community.

Returning to the national assembly for a second term, Majigiri vowed to offer effective representation by presenting well-considered proposals to the House, aiming to improve the lives of his constituents and contribute to the country’s advancement.

The legislator pledged to maintain an open-door policy, collaborating closely with key stakeholders to ensure quality representation. This commitment was underscored by the warm reception orchestrated by his supporters.

He urged the constituents to continue their unwavering support, asserting that their backing would significantly enhance his effectiveness as a representative in the National Assembly.
