‘Ask Facebook,’ Taliban Replies When Asked About Freedom Of Speech In Their Govt
On Tuesday, a Taliban spokesman mocked a journalist’s query about whether their administration would respect freedom of speech by advising him to ask Facebook.
Facebook, its subsidiaries WhatsApp and Instagram, as well as and YouTube, have all blocked the Taliban, yet it is allowed on.
The Taliban’s strategy for freedom of speech was questioned of Zabihullah Mujahid, who has 310,000 Twitter followers.
‘This question should be asked to those people who are claiming to be promoters of freedom of speech who do not allow publication of information,’ he replied.
‘I can ask Facebook company.’
Facebook and other social media corporations have been chastised for suppressing conservative leaders like Donald Trump, who has been barred on the platform since the January 6 Capitol riot due to fears of inciting violence.
Donald Trump Jr. praised Mujahid’s remarks, retweeting the 30-second video clip and saying, ‘LOL… Also not wrong.’
In a statement earlier in the day, a Facebook representative said the firm would continue to block information from the Taliban, citing the State Department’s designation of the group as a terrorist organization.
