Residents, Motorists Express Worry Over Bad State Of Njaba Bridge, Nkume Road

Residents and motorists at the Njaba Bridge and Y-Junction area of Imo State’s Njaba Local Government Area have raised concern over the road’s poor condition.

When DAILY POST went to the region on Saturday, it discovered that the whole Njaba Bridge, from the Owerri Orlu axis down to Y-Junction Nkume, was in desperate need of repair.

Mr Anselem Anokwute, a community stakeholder, stated the bridge’s floor was full of cracks and potholes, aside from the evident structural fault visible on the bridge’s embarkation.

He claimed that the state of the roads on Awo-nmama Okwudo Road had become a major difficulty for drivers.

“Anytime it rains, the Y-Junction at Nkume road down to Banana Junction and down to Orlu town is usually flooded, making them difficult for cars, buses and motorcycles to ply,” he said.

Anokwute, who said he is from Umuduogba community seized the platform to remind Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma of his promise to fix the Awo-nmama Okwudo road within 18months after assumption of office.

Also reacting to poor condition of Orlu road, Mr Steve Uzechi described the state of the road as terrible.

He said,” I don’t know exactly what the government is doing about the terrible state of this road. The role of a leader is to ensure the well being of its citizens, but the reverse is the case as they do not care about the welfare of the people.”

A motorist at the Y-Junction, who craved anonymity, said: “I don’t work during raining season because it might damage my vehicle, only motorcycles are fortunate enough to work during that time and they increase transport prices.

“Even on a normal day, I do repair my vehicle like twice a day because of how bad the road is.”
