President Buhari Promises To Help South Sudan Fight Terrorism
On Friday, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari offered to assist South Sudan in fighting insurgency and restoring unity to the country.
Buhari made the vow despite the ongoing instability in Nigeria, which is jeopardizing the country’s business survival.
The President spoke after receiving Hon. Albino Mathom Ayuel, President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan’s Special Envoy, in the audience.
He addressed the Special Envoy about the circumstances his administration encountered on the ground in the North East in 2015, and how it had improved.
“We will study your situation, and see how we can help,” President Buhari said.
The Special Envoy had intimated his host about the situation in his country, particularly how an insurgent group, “just like your Boko Haram here kills, maims and destroys.” He then appealed for “close collaboration on security, particularly the training of our forces, since you have experience in this area.”
Mr Albino Ayuel said South Sudan was keen on ending the insurgent activities, “hence this appeal to our big brother.”
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters had reported on Wednesday how seven soldiers, including senior officers were gruesomely murdered in Taraba State when Boko Haram terrorists ambushed their convoy.
