Osinbajo seeks Senate APC caucus’ support over presidential bid

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo updated the Senate All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus on his presidential ambitions on Tuesday and solicited their support.

The briefing took place over Iftar supper at Osinbajo’s official residence, Aguda House, within the Presidential Villa in Abuja, as part of Osinbajo’s engagements with key stakeholders.

Although the meeting was held behind closed doors, Ahmad Lawan, the President of the Senate, who escorted the APC senators to the Villa, told reporters what happened.

“We had Iftar meal with His Excellency, the Vice President, and then we had a brief discussion about our government and, of course, the Vice President’s announcement that he will run for the presidency of our beautiful country, the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Lawan stated.

“Naturally, the Vice President told us that he has expressed his desire and that he wants to discuss with the Senate APC caucus,” Lawan added when pressed further.

“He wanted us to hear what he had to say, which we did, and he was asking for our help in whatever way we could at the appropriate moment, and we wish the Vice President luck in this endeavor.”

“However, let me assure everyone that the Senate APC caucus, as well as the APC caucus in the National Assembly, will continue to work very hard to ensure that our great party, the APC, continues to provide services to Nigerians and that, by 2023, the next administration is an APC administration at the center and majority of the  States in our country, by the Grace of God will be APC.”
