Ondo Crisis: Deputy Gov To Preside Over Crucial Meeting As His Camp Pushes To Make Him Governor

Things seem to be taking a new turn in Ondo State as the State Executive Council holds its crucial meeting today in Akure, the state capital

The meeting will be its first meeting after three months even as crisis has been rocking the power hierarchy in the Sunshine State.

Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will preside over the meeting even as his allies push for him to become the Acting Governor given the health condition of his Boss, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who has been out of the state for several months. This important meeting is also the first since the warring camps endorsed a peace deal at a reconciliation meeting hosted in Abuja by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the weekend.

However, some elite are kicking against the resolution that the deputy governor should submit an undated letter of resignation.

“Exco meeting will be held about three months after the last meeting was held in Ibadan, presided over by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, when he returned from medical vacation in September,” said a source.

“The exco meeting that will be held on Thursday (today) shows that everyone is sticking with the resolution reached with Tinubu. All that we are focused on is the development of Ondo State, and that should be paramount in the minds of all of us at the moment,” the source added.

While Aiyedatiwa’s supporters are pushing for him to take over power as Acting Governor, the pro-Akeredolu’s camp led by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji are insisting that the Deputy Governor should write and send is signed but undated resignation letter as they reportedly agreed during their meeting with Tinubu.
